Overthinking it? Pause and Take a Breath!
I would like to share a Mental Health and Stress Management tip from a good friend of General Cornum’s. Dr. Mike Freville who has worked to help Law Enforcement overcome Mental Health Challenges in KY for more than a decade…
Often, we may find ourselves needing to regulate our emotional reactions to our thoughts because we may overthink situations too much. Dr. Freville sums it up pretty well.
Stay Resilient! – Chris
Mike says: Do you ever find yourself overthinking a topic, matter, situation, relationship? In today’s complex world, it’s easy to do so. Compared to the past, there are many outside influences and inputs in our day-to-day world. TV, social media, friends’ opinions, family opinions, advertising, you name it.
They can all conspire to muddy our thinking, making us doubt or making something much more than it is. I suggest you cut through the fog. Be more proactive for yourself. If you find yourself overthinking something, take a moment to do a self-check.
- Is what I’m thinking actually happening?
- Am I blowing something way out of proportion?
- Take a step back and give yourself grace, and allow your mind to reset
Full panic mode will get you deeper in the rut of overthinking. Again, pause and take a breath. Your mind will begin to clear.
